Forums and message boards were huge back in the 2000s. They (as well as separate chat rooms) were the entirety of our social media before things like LiveJournal came out and we could all link our personal diaries together into social networks. Which, don't get me wrong, was great! We had our friends on hand at all times and could share our opinions on any and everything!
Honestly though, sometimes forums have an advantage over social networks. Namely, forums can be dedicated to mainly one subject, where you and other fans of just that subject get to chat, without RandoBunchofNumbers or annoying AD Posts chiming in every two posts down. Sure, you can kind of get that with private groups, but lately it's easy to miss those unless you go directly to every separate mini-group because the algorithm refuses to let you see half of the things that come up in favor of posts it thinks you'll like. And of course, sometimes you just want to Earp instead of watch your buddies spam post about their obsession with LaCroix or something.
Additionally, forums can separate discussions into topics without having to make whole separate groups. You'll find boards here about different conventions, with threads about individual panels. Boards about the show itself with threads about episode questions. Boards about projects the cast have been up to. All separated so that if it's a topic you don't want to be a part of, you don't have to click to it. But if you DO want to discuss it, it and any other discussions about it are right there and easy to jump right into.
It's also an easily accessible archive! Continuous scroll group chats have a habit of launching discussions way back to the point of "not worth scrolling back to" really fast. In forum threads, the topic stays there and is simple to return to!
So this is a return to a simpler format. No, it doesn't have the reach major social media platforms do. But that's not its intention. The intention here is to Earp and Earp hard. To gather and centralize some of the wonderful discussions, announcements, links to fan works, media playlists, etc in a way that doesn't require trying to wade through all the mess that many social media networks have become lately.
Don't get me wrong, those platforms are great and have their uses! The campaigning for more Wynonna Earp should definitely keep happening there!
This is just an attempt to create a space away from all the *gestures at mess*.
